MSV Duisburg and 1st FC Magdeburg are determined as direct descendors to the 3rd division. Duisburg lost 3:4 (1:2) in the home game against FC Heidenheim on matchday 33 and thus has no chance of salvation as well as the Magdeburg. After a 0:3 (0:2) in the eastern duel at Union Berlin, the only European Cup winner in the GDR has to return to third class after just one year.
The team of Torsten Lieberknecht, who took over the coaching post with the Zebras in October, is the second relegation in twelve months. Last year, the 45-year-old had been unable to avert the crash of his long-term club Eintracht Braunschweig.
Premier League: Manchester City are English champions
Robert Glatzel (27th), Denis Thomalla (37th), an own goal by Dustin Bomheuer (58th) and Niklas Dorsch (82nd) ensured the victory of the guests. With 52 counters now, however, coach Frank Schmidt's squad has already scored the best second-division points yield in the club's history. Moritz Stoppelkamp (33rd) and Bomheuer (50th) Lukas Daschner (80th) in the meantime equalised.
Duisburg got off to a better start, but Stoppelkamp (3rd) and Havard Nielsen (11th) awarded their opportunities. Glatzel did better on the other hand before Stoppelkamp succeeded by a surgout after a wasted trade meter from Kevin Wolze. Earlier, the ex-Paderborner had already hit the post (29th).
Rummenigge and Salihamidzic: No job guarantee for Kovac
Even after Thomalla's renewed tour of the guest, the encounter remained open. Bomheuer was allowed to head in completely freely after a corner ball, the same was achieved a short time later extremely curiously on the opposite side.

Magdeburg fans riot in Berlin
In front of 22,012 spectators at the sold-out stadium at the Old Forsterei, Grischa Prömel (8th) and Sebastian Polter (31st, 90 + 6)) scored the goals for the clearly superior Iron Sites, who can ascend to the Bundesliga as the fifth team from the former GDR. On the last day of play, coach Urs Fischer's team will compete at VfL Bochum.
FC Magdeburg has to make its way back to the 3rd division after just one year. The only GDR European Cup winner can no longer reach 16th place by FC Ingolstadt's win over Darmstadt. For the team of coach Michael Oenning, the game on the last matchday against up-and-comers 1st FC Köln is meaningless.
Angry Magdeburg fans made their frustration air just before the end. They threw poles into the neighboring Unioner fan block and tried to destroy the fence. The game had to be interrupted for almost ten minutes. Even before that, the guest devotees had noticed uncomfortably with abundantly burnt pyrotechnics. There is a threat of a delicate punishment.
League 2: Champions Cologne lose to Regensburg
Union finally showed the necessary determination after the disappointing 1:2 the previous week at Darmstadt 98 and kicked off the Magdeburg Gate from the start. The guests barely came to the photocopy. It first struck in the goal by Magdeburg keeper Giorgi Loria in the 8th minute. Even after that, the snappy and passionate landlords continued their one-way street football.
Magdeburg didn't think of much in the face of great pressure from Union. Former Bundesliga pro Jan Kirchhoff (muscle fiber tear) and Frenchman Charles-Elie Laprevotte (ligament tear) were sorely missed. Bitter for Magdeburg: Last year, Elbe townspeople had risen for the first time since reunification. Before the game at Union, the ascendant had set up a secret training camp, but the large building was not done.
