A huge explosion destroys a residential building in Allgäu. Rescuers search for spills in the rubble. Around lunchtime, they will be successful for the first time.
Rettenbach on Auerberg (AP)-After the explosion of a residential building in Allgäu, rescue workers are still searching for two spills. According to police information, this is a father with his child.
The mother had been recovered from the wreckage at the scene at midday on Sunday.
At first, police had feared that even seven people may have spilled in the explosion of the three-story building in a residential area in Rettenbach on Auerberg-because so many people were reported as residing in the house. As it turned out, however, a family of four were out of the house at the time of the accident.
Two other homes were damaged in the blast, one seriously. As the cause of the accident, police now suspect a gas explosion.
Pictures from on-site show only one pile of rubble where the house is said to have previously stood. An adjacent house is at least «partially damaged», according to the police spokesman on the scene. Debris lies scattered in the street. A car standing outside the apartment building is also berated with debris and damaged. Numerous helpers from the fire brigade and the Bavarian Red Cross are on hand. A rescue dog is also deployed, the police spokesman went on to say. Aid workers initially tried to lift the roof of the house off the pile of rubble.
